Celebrating 40 Years of Schengen: Personal stories of European freedom

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Schengen Agreements, the Representation of the European Commission in Luxembourg launched a creative and innovative video project. Developed by a dynamic team, the video highlights the emblematic benefits of the Schengen Agreements, signed in Luxembourg in the little town of Schengen, where this historic event took place.

Through the voices of six EU citizens from diverse backgrounds and origins - a logistics professional from Spain, a business consultant from Romania, a Luxembourgish politician involved in the original signing, a Maltese student, a German commuter, and a Latvian artist - the video shows how Schengen has transformed their everyday life in a very concrete manner.

Each participant shares their personal experience in their native language, avoiding institutional jargon to bring out the real, often invisible benefits of free movement. Paired with metaphorical visuals, these testimonies immerse viewers in unique perspectives, illustrating Schengen’s vital role in fostering European unity and freedom.
